Special pre-order starts July 26th

On Monday, July 26th we will be starting pre-orders of my new album “This Way Up” here at my website. There will be several CD package options to choose from, all including an instant digital download of the entire album in mp3 or apple lossless format at no extra cost! That’s right, you will own and listen to the album immediately as we are busy shipping your order. All orders begin shipping on Aug 9th.

Also I will be offering my CD at Paul’s upcoming shows before release on Aug 9th. This limited edition advance CD features the entire album but in a jewel case, not fine digipack and without the Deluxe Edition slip cover and 16 page booklet. It will be sold for $12.00 instead of the $15.00 for the Deluxe Edition available Aug 9th. Anyone who has a flip cam, an iPhone, a serious f-off mega super pixel HD camera and wants to be involved can make a video of the song… It can be of anything you think portrays “I Found You”, and any length from 30 seconds to the full 4:19.

I will have a look at ALL of your work and then I’ll edit together your ideas into a new video which will be up on YouTube and available to download here on my site. Does that sound fun, or WHAT?? Yesssss!!!

I’m looking to get it done for the release of the Limited Deluxe Edition of my CD which will be available by Monday, Aug 9th. If it goes longer than that, it’s ok.. for now that is my target.

So, for the next 2 weeks I will be accepting your video ideas.

Here’s how to enter:

1. Record a video that portrays what “I Found You” means to you.
2. Your video can be any length from 30 seconds to the full running time of the song. I’m not looking for professional recordings, but it must be reasonably good quality.
3. If possible, it should be in one of the following formats: WMV, MOV, MPEG-1 or MPEG-2. If you’re not sure, send it on anyway - we can probably work with it!
4. Upload your video to yousendit.com and email a link to fiona@brianray.com before Tuesday 20th July. Please don’t send your video as an email attachment.
5. Fi will send your videos on to me and I’ll include as many of them as possible in my new video.

Happy Ending is one of those songs where the guy is saying I’m gonna go out and pull a bird tonight and he’s trolling around the internet and finds a really good one, they get together for a date and he quite likes her. She was just happy about being a car date but he wants something more than a happy ending. I think that’s kind of where a lot of people find themselves. What the hell are the rules now?

It’s a more aggressive sound then the recordings I have done before this. You can expect strong songs ecause I am just a nut for a hook. I love hooks, in pop, RnB, wherever, I just want something to be so sticky you can’t get it off your mind. I don’t feel like I have done my job until I have made a song fairly irresistible.

I was recording my new solo record, and had a crazy idea to write a break into the song, “I Found You” that was like a marching band, but with guitars in place of the trombone parts, guitars in place of the trumpet parts and so on…....Not long after that I was introduced to Stephen Ross, owner of the Miami Dolphins, and I mentioned how cool it would be to have that march out at a halftime show in place of a marching band. On the spot, he offered to let me do it.

I’m psyched to see Pink sing in an hour. She knocks me out!

My first real connection as a kid was with the Kennedy family. All these years later to have the dream come true to meet and play for a president and then to have the honor of doing so with Paul… wow. just wow.

Paul’s band was chosen to back up the other artists to play for the Obamas on the night of the Gershwin Prize Honors.. Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello, Dave Grohl, Faith Hill, Emmylou Harris, Lang Lang, Jack White, Herbie Hancock and Corinne Bailey Rae all sang and played songs from Paul’s deep catalogue. It was a blast for us to learn new Paul songs with different keys and arrangements.. That kind of change and challenge keeps us in top form, keeps us on our toes..

We finished the night with Paul doing about 5 songs. He was gracious, funny and humble and as usual sang like a bird. I won’t tell you what songs we did, it has been written about already but it will be shown on July 28th on PBS, so set your TiVo’s!

The President was gracious and cool, shaking hands with each of us. He made sure we got a photo with him before the event and he was sitting 3 feet away from us! Talk about nerves! Paul, The Prez, Michelle and their 2 lovely children.. right THERE!

Rehearsals were fun, talking with all of the performers. It’s interesting to see that these great artists and stars are nervous just like any of us would be.

Anyway, too much fun and stories to go into, suffice to say it was like a dream. Hope I never have to wake up.

Thanks Paul, President Obama, et al! And than you ALL for you continued support and I hope to see you around the campfire.
