Reflections on rehearsing for our European tour with Paul McCartney

We’ve just finished our rehearsals in the south of England as we prepare for our European tour, our last of 2009. While we’ve been together for going on eight years, each time we get together, it’s somehow different. We’re reconvening from different paths even though it’s been a short three and one half months since our last show in Dallas. We’ve each been busy with our own projects and our own lives.

There’s an understood sense of mutual respect that we all have in our collective energy that we bring to the table. In our own right, we have our own lives and creative projects, but when we walk into a venue to soundcheck and perform, we are a tight and cohesive group, still hungry and excited, focused on supporting Macca.

This time, leaving friends and family right before Thanksgiving was hard. It’s a day that’s so American and so special because I have so much to give thanks for.

As I was crossing the Atlantic, I realized that I was en route to connect with my other family: the band that I get to play a part in and in many ways celebrate our own day of thanks to our greater family at large: You, the fans who make this all possible.

I hope you’ll stay tuned to my blog and of course, posts on Twitter and Facebook as this end-of-the-year adventure unfolds.
