Pet adoption contest, The Grammys & MusiCares

Hey Everybody! How are you all feeling? Wow, I just finished up one of the best weeks I think I’ve ever recorded in this, or any other life. The rehearsals [for MusiCares Dinner and Grammys] were especially fun and gratifying. I love getting together with the guys after a bit of time off to play and do what we are all so lucky to do.

I know it sounds cliche but I am grateful for every day I get to do what comes naturally to me for a living, which is a good thing because I didn’t have a backup plan. I’m a lucky sap.

MusiCares

As most of you know, MusiCares Foundation was set up about 20 years ago to help musicians who want health assistance but cannot afford it. Paul was Honoree of the Year and with Niel Young, The Foo Fighters, Norah Jones, Duane Eddy, Coldplay Katy Perry and Sergio Mendez, we raised over 12 million dollars, setting a new record for contibutions~ Well done, all! It was a huge pleasure to be included in a cause so close to my own heart. Coincidentally, my Whooray Team of friends and fans donated a nice chunk of money to MusiCares in my name, early January for my birthday gift as well!

Grammys

Now, next up, Grammys 2012.. All I can say is WOW. There was something very special this year, perhaps with the untimely passing of My Dearest Darling, Etta James and also Whitney Houston, giving the celebration a sense of gravity aften missing in awards shows. To see and hear Bonnie Raitt and Alicia Keys sing their tribute to Etta shortly before I was to perform really put me in my shoes, took me out of my head and into my heart. Thanks Bonnie.

The finale with Paul and the guys, with Bruce Springsteen, Dave Grohl and Joe Walsh added at the last minute made it so electrically charged. Congrats to Paul on his Grammy win for Band On The Run!

Contest winner

Finally, please pardon me for the late notice on y contest for the Pet Adoption stories. I’m pleased to announce my favorite story submitted.

Marlo Muzz

Marlo will receive a signed, personalized CD of her choice [please give us your email address!].

I’m really happy you are all digging the wristbands, we’re almost sold out and petadoptionfund.org will be receiving a sweet check - out of the clear blue sky - from all of you!

Note: I have had a few complaints that the red lettering has come off the black wristband so I have ordered replacements for anyone who wants one. The new ones will be two color bands, where the lettering comes thru the face from an inner band, rather than being printed on top of the silicone.

All of your stories of pet adoption were a blast to read, I read and loved every tale [or tail, ahem] and am really chuffed that you all responded from everywhere on earth in this way. We are all bound by our love of animals and it’s the same all over the world.

Cheers, until next time!

Brian

Ivan’s Story

This is so great to raise funds for this group!! I’m also new to the rescue thing and my heart has been crushed by what I’ve seen.

My boyfriend really wanted a bulldog and I figured I would save some money and get one for him as a wedding gift “someday”. I had told some of our “Bullie“ friends we wanted one and they had also
given me breeder info and such.  One friend was on a bulldog rescue list and the dogs that came up just weren’t good with children or not compatible with other dogs, needless to say nothing ever came of getting a rescue dog.
Then in August 2011 a few strangers from our shelter here in Palm Springs heard that a bulldog had been found and was in a high kill shelter in Devore, CA about 2.5 hrs away.  We called everyday and this place wouldn’t give me any info on the dog, the volunteer from the shelter here called everyday and contacted her friends at petconnect.us another rescue, and they also called everyday to get info, 2 weeks passed still didn’t here if he would be adopted out or what his story was or what he looked like.

Ivan the bulldogThen at work this same women I never met called me at work, got my number from a friend of a friend, said I heard you really wanted to help this dog if you do no one has called for him today be at the shelter by 4pm today! It was 2:45!!!  I was so scared didn’t know what to do, my heart told me grab my son and go!  So we did I ran out of work and drove fast!!

When we arrived IVAN came out, covered head to toe in MANGE all his folds, skin were covered in scabs, he was bleeding from scratching so hard and smelled so bad.  I was nervous he was going to be mad and aggressive.  BUT NOPE he walked over and put his paws up like please take me home L I COULDN’T say no.  I grabbed the leash looked at my son and said lets save him.  My 10 yr old was so sad for him and agreed. We drove home with the windows down and he was a champ car rider.

Taking Ivan as my first dog I’ve picked out and wasn’t given to me or handed down to me has been the most amazing experience and I wouldn’t have changed it for the world, even with all the ups and downs we have had since August with his healing.  He is now gone from the 40lb dog we found to a healthy 65lb bulldog 98% of his hair has grown back and he is so gentile with my son and with his 8 pound yorkie sister Olive.  He is just the best companion for this family and my now Fiancé couldn’t be more happy with our choice.  I have attached a after photo!
